Whether you are a reseller or an affiliate, if you work hard and smart you can make a lot of money on the net.  There are certain basic do's and dont's you should be aware of that will help you maximize your profits.  Here they are:

Do's
  • Choose a good web host. It's important that you have a good product to sell.  Get recommendations for web hosts with good uptime, technical support and customer service.   
  • Choose a web host that has a good reputation of working with resellers.  You want someone who will work with you.  If they have plans specifically geared to resellers even better. 
  • Provide excellent customer service.  If people are happy with your services they can spread the word fast on the net. Same with unhappy customers.

Dont's

  • Don't set your plan prices too high.  Make sure you are in the same range as your competition.
  • Don't set outrageous set up fees.  It turns customers off right off the bat.   A reasonable set up fee will make you more money in the long run.
  • Don't overpay for space or services that you don't need, especially when you are first starting out.  Choose a plan that fits your needs.
  • Don't use someone else's name servers. Make sure that the web host you go with will set you up with your own.  Most will do this for free. If they don't or give you a hard time about it, they aren't reseller friendly.  Go elsewhere.

Do's
  • Choose a good web host.  It's important that you have a good product to sell.
  • Pre-sell the web host.  Let your customers know something about the web host.   Tell them what's good about it.
  • Learn all you can about affiliate marketing.   The more you know, the more money you can make.

Dont's

  • Don't ever pay to join an affiliate program.  If it isn't free, don't join.
  • Don't just go with the affiliate program that pays the most.  Go with the one that has the best product, pays the most AND actually pays their affiliates.  Get recommendations.  Nothing is worse than making money for a company, then getting stiffed.
  • Don't go with a program that doesn't pay at least monthly.  There are some good programs out there that pay quarterly, but why should you have to wait for your money?   There are a lot of web hosts that pay monthly.  Go with one of those.
